6.0L 2005 Rodney Strong Cabernet Sauvignon Rockaway

Reviews:

Vibrant and concentrated, with aromas of loamy earth, dried currant, graphite, mineral and fresh earth, ending with a return to red cherry and plum themes and a clean, focused finish. A step up in quality for this producer. Best from 2009 through 2016. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 1,800 cases made. –JL –Rated 90, Wine Spectator

The dense purple-colored 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits aromas of damp earth, blue and blackberries, and hints of graphite and underbrush. The wine is nuanced and harmonious with admirably integrated acidity, sweet tannin, and wood. It should drink nicely for 10-15 years. These new, high-end products from the Rodney Strong Winery are made with the assistance of consultant David Ramey. This trio represents a huge leap forward qualitatively, but prices are higher also. There are 2,000-3,000 cases of these cuvees, which are all over 90% Cabernet Sauvignon with the rest Malbec and Petit Verdot. –Rated 91, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

Dark, rich, tannic and elaborately detailed, this Cab, an inaugural release from the winery, shows dramatic weight and intensity of black currant fruit. It’s also rich in smoky new oak. If size alone were everything, it would be a perfect wine. As it is, it overwhelms the palate with power, and it’s hard to imagine what to pair with it at the table. Seems designed for the cellar, but it’s a guess. Tasted twice. — S.H. (12/31/2008) –Rated 90, Wine Enthusiast

Opening bid is $300.00. Minimum bid increment is $10.00.

[How it works- Each auction lot will get its own post. As soon as it gets its own post, the auction is live. Once a bit of time has passed, and people really know about Wine for Haiti, lots will go live AND HOT. Once hot, each lot is on a 24-hour cycle, ending at 10:00 p.m. Eastern Time. If a lot goes a full 24 hours, from 10:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., without a new bid, the last bid in the comments wins. If we get into a bidding war, with the same people going back and forth, one day at a time, we will post something in the comments of that Auction Lot and schedule a time to bid to the death, at a time mutually agreeable to everybody involved.]
