An outstanding wine that exhibits a focused nose offering minerality, quince, flowers and fresh fruit. Medium sweet on palate with plenty of spices and a creamy phenolic texture. Pronounced acidity balances residual sugars, providing long ageing potential. Drink from 2016. Ioannis Karakasis WHO: Franz Künstler Hochheimer WHAT: Riesling, Auler WHERE:
Nose doesn’t offer pure fruit; petrol, peanuts and dried onions are prominent. Much better on the palate, with refreshing acidity delivering flavors of flowers, peach and citrus fruit. Overall a cool climate, focused and well-delineated wine. Ioannis Karakasis WHO: Schloss Vollrads WHAT: Riesling WHERE: Germany, Rheingau WHEN: 2008 HOW MUCH:
Lemon with an expressive nose that offers earthy aromas, smoky minerality and green fruit. Off-dry on palate with a refreshing well-integrated acidity that leads the way to a medium round body. Challenged with pairing wines this Thanksgiving? Though turkey day is regarded as a most traditional American holiday, increasingly it is celebrated in the U.K., and foodies flock to gastronomic restaurants with highly educated sommeliers that are increasingly attaining the Master Sommelier level. Turkey is a traditional main dish for Christmas
From the stellar ‘71 vintage. Copper gold in appearance with a medium+ fully developed seductive nose delivering honey, pollen, minerality and green/citrus fruit. Sweet on palate but very elegant. Overall finesse. Ioannis Karakasis WHO: Allendorf Winkeler WHAT: Riesling, trockenbeerenauslese WHERE: Germany, Rheingau WHEN: 1971 HOW MUCH:
Nose offers sweetness of honey and quince backed by citrus/stone fruit. On the palate it is medium dry to medium, with 110 g/l rs that are well balanced by pronounced and lively acidity (9g) tartaric. This is an almost fleshy, medium bodied wine that delivers a long finish. Very young.
Deep amber with a medium fully developed totally honeyed nose (like opening a honey jar) with notes of quince and dried apricots. Some earthy minerality also present. Not very sweet on palate but medium sweet, very elegant and still fresh with pineapple flavours. An ethereal style. Ioannis Karakasis WHO: Weingut Allendorf
