Had a great experience with Mionetto Prosecco the other night, at the book launch for my friend Barbara Lynn Davis’ new novel Casanova’s Secret Wife. As some may know, Casanova (who actually was a real person) spent a good deal of his enthusiastically-lived life in Venice and the Veneto region of Italy. In fact, he had to decamp to Treviso for a year in 1747, fleeing gambling debts in Venice. So it was appropriate that Mionetto sent us this Prosecco for the event, with grapes grown in Treviso.
In the past decade or so I’ve had plenty of chances to sample this Prosecco — with varied results, which is why I was pleased this showed so well, and its pairing with appetizers was so successful. The sparkling wine is classified as brut, yet is nicely rounded in both aromas and flavors. Hints of apricot fruit run through it, surrounded by lemony acidity with a hint of toast, somehow. My favorite pairing was with panini of eggplant, zucchini and herbed ricotta. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED – BSE
