This richly textured wine is released after 30 months in oak and a further twelve in bottle. The wine is mature now, and a pleasure to drink. It is made by a cooperative in the Alentejo region of Portugal that was founded fifty years ago. This is a classic blend based on alicante bouschet, now the signature grape of the region. Age and oak add complexity and earthiness to the wine’s flavors of ripened, sun-baked fruit – along with a notes of minty pepper, nice acidity and a longish finish.
SUSTAINABILITY STATEMENT: Member of the Wines of Alentejo Sustainability Program, who have reduced their water usage — per liter of wine produced — from an average of 14 liters to five liters, with some as low as 1.2 liters.
