After tasting Elena Walch’s wines with her some years ago, I have had the utmost respect for her as a winemaker. However, the samples I’ve been getting in the last few months have had a disturbing bitter note to them. This gewurtztraminer has a classic rose aroma, and a lovely gold color. It has layers of flavors, from a woody note to citrus and minerals. However there’s an apricot skin bitter ness that appears on the end palate and in the finish. I thought it might be great with food, but the bitterness persisted and it didn’t pair well with anything we had on the table, unfortunately.
