This barrel sample is wine in its infancy. Indeed, most of it is still resting in the comfort of its oaken womb. It was as high and tight as a Marine’s boot camp hair cut, tart with unsweetened cranberry and rhubarb, slightly sweetened with dried strawberries and complemented by fresh-picked sage. It exhibited powerful tannins and a tart, unsweetened finish. This earned a 4.5 out of 5 stars at the 2010 Palate Press Grand Tasting, all on potential. It is young and disjointed, but all the right flavors are there, just waiting for more time to knit together into something special.
