Submit a Story
To submit articles to Palate Press: The online wine magazine, send your story idea to submissions@palatepress.com. It should include the suggested title, lead, and a sentence or two of explanation. We will send a response within a week. If we can use the story we will ask for it in two weeks, and expect to publish it within the following two weeks.
One of the strengths of Palate Press is in our editing process. Every story gets an initial review from our Executive Editor, Meg Houston Maker, before being passed to an Editor. Editors work with writers to make the story the best it can be, as well as to maintain consistency with our Style Sheet. Editing can be a difficult experience for bloggers, used to publishing their own material, but we here at Palate Press are convinced that people repeatedly comment we have the best wine content on line because we combine the very best writers anywhere with careful and considered editing. And while none of the editors here are Max Perkins, if Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Thomas Wolfe had an editor, perhaps we can all be better for a second set of eyes. (I know I am. – DBH)
All stories submitted to Palate Press should be new and exclusive. For stories published without compensation to the author, Palate Press gets a thirty day exclusive right to carry the story as well as the right to retain the story in archives indefinitely. All other rights revert to the author. Palate Press maintains exclusive rights for stories purchased from the author, absent a different individual agreement between the author and the magazine.
Here at Palate Press we are very careful about copyrights. We will ask for art to acompany your story, if possible. All art should be owned by the author, or the author should have the right to use the art.
We appreciate all story submissions and look forward to working with wine writers around the world, making Palate Press the best wine magazine anywhere, on line or in print. We do reject stories, but often that is because we recently ran a similar story, or have one pending. If we are not able to accept your story the first time, please submit another.
If we do publish your story at Palate Press we request, but do not require, that on the day it is published you post the headline, lead, and a link to the story on your own website, if you maintain one.
Thank you,and we look forward to seeing your byline under a new story at Palate Press: The online wine magazine.
