A surprisingly floral nose offers up citrus blossoms with gentle gooseberry aromas. Indian River Ruby Red grapefruit, orange blossoms, and that same gentle hint of gooseberry are on the palate. Tangy Meyer Lemon and Key Lime, dusted with chalk, make a lingering finish. Minerality and the understated influence of gooseberry will remind people far more of Sauvignon Blanc from Sancerre than New Zealand. Drink with grilled Tilapia.
The color is a clear, bright pale yellow, with a slight green hue. I had expected the Viognier to dominate the nose with its typical fragrant, floral aromas, but was clearly able to detect the Sauvignon blanc. The hints of grassiness and grapefruit are there, just a bit subdued. Interwoven are subtle citrus, peach, and honey aromas. In the mouth the three varietals meld together splendidly with layers of peach, subtle lime, and green apple. A touch of minerality and wet stone mid palette. Great mouth feel and excellent balance, that ends in a lingering, slightly mouth watering finish, pleasing acidity. Read the full review on Simple Hedonisms.
Pale straw yellow and aromatic, with a salty, floral nose. On the palate it has brilliant acidity: citrusy, but with pear and basil, too. It tastes like jasmine in full bloom. It offers an herbaceous finish that's spicy but languorous. It takes its time. Restrained and elegant, this wine poses an Old-world counterpoint to the explosively grassy, lemony Sauvignon blancs found in the New.
