NV Sumac Ridge Sparkling Rosé – Okanagan Valley, BC

A blend of 51% Pinot Noir, 30% Gamay Noir, and 19% Ehrenfelser—is a fresh and sassy sparkler, with lots of citrus and berry flavours and a frothy mousse that shouts fun! Each sip left my palate clean and ready for more smoked salmon, cheeses and crunchy fresh veggies with dip. While there certainly was a lot of fruitiness, I didn’t get a sense of sweetness with this wine. To read more about this wine, visit Kathleen’s blog post on Between the Vines.
Palate Press Wine of the Week – 2009 Lynmar Pinot Noir Rosé

Vibrant orange/pink hued salmon color. A lightly fragrant nose of strawberry, raspberry and hint of crisp Jolly Rancher watermelon. Don’t let the flavor descriptors fool you, this is a wonderfully dry rosé with no sweetness. Nice weight in mouth for a rose, balanced with acidity that will pair well with many foods. Hint of that beloved Pinot noir silkiness. Watermelon and cherry mid-palette. Pleasant finish. Considering the price and quality of Lynmar Estates wine, this is an excellent Price to Quality Ratio. Very Good, Strongly Recommend. Read the full review here on Simple Hedonisms.

Color is very clear and bright, a light pink with a slight orange tint. Soft strawberries and tropical fruit, balanced by a streak of acid and light tannins, make a very pleasant wine with a good mouth-feel. This is a good summer wine that will pair with skewered shrimp or barbecued chicken.

Most people can confidently pair wines with seafood, meat or pasta—but pairing wines with salads can put even an avid wine drinker into a quandary.
With the warm weather upon us, salads are about to take up more room at the dinner table. If you are stumped about what wine to serve with your salad, you’ll be pleased to know that many wines lend themselves beautifully to this more often than not underappreciated course.
2009 Stepping Stone Corallina Rosé – Red Hills Lake County, California

This intriguing rosé started with three days skin contact, followed by a very slow three-month fermentation. Progression on the palate is fascinating, as if the wine changed from white to red from attack to finish. It opens with a great acid streak and the tiniest fleeting hint of barely ripe peach before immediately switching to the red flavors. It starts lightly with strawberries, faint at first then growing, getting sweeter and darker, evolving into cherries, which linger. I drank this the day after it was bottled, in a courtesy tasting with General Manager, Craig Camp, and the new full-time winemaker, Jeff Keene. Once the wine recovers from the beating it took it will only get better.

Clear with medium intensity, darker and deeper than many rosés, somewhere between rose and cranberry juice. Just shy of being incredibly aromatic, the youthful aromas jump out. Included are grapefruit, citrus, lemon, cherry, strawberry, a little vegetal, and floral. A dry wine with medium-high acidity, body, and alcohol. Flavors include cranberry, sour cherry, lemon, green apple, pineapple, and a little bell pepper! Each sip leaves your mouth watering making it very refreshing. 2008 Strut Risqué Rosé, Okanagan, British Columbia

The strawberry and banana penny candy on the nose is a sure give away of the Gamay component of this wine. The rest of it—aromas and flavours of strawberries, sour cherries, and rhubarb—work together for an enjoyable value-priced BC rosé. Juicy and nicely balanced, I’d buy this one again.
