Make sure to stop and smell the rosé

Ahhh rose: A wonderful wine driven to exile in many domestic markets due to its striking visual similarity to the much sweeter White Zinfandel wines. That being said, it’s probably true that even if white zin were actually white, Rose would still have a tough time breaking into the young male demographic. I mean, let’s face it… the only reason white cranberry juice even exists is so that men will order “camouflage cosmopolitans”. Plus, I’ve sat in quite a few power dinners. When you’re a young professional surrounded by the would-be cast of Mad Men with their two fingers of small batch bourbon and 48 gauge churchills, you don’t want to be the guy who orders 6oz of pink grape juice. I’m just sayin’…

Wine for Haiti Lot 69 – Locapour Half-Bottles

Gretchen Neuman, of VinoVerve, and also our very favorite LocaPour, contributed three different half-bottles from her locapour travel adventures. I don’t know about you, but I love half-bottles. If it’s just me, they’re just right. If there are two of us, we get to try two different wines, and if there are more, it’s a vino-smorgasbord. The three wines are Wolffer Cabernet Franc, 2003, from Long Island, NY (Retail $15.00), 2004 Warm Lake Estates Glace Noir (Niagara Escarpment AVA) (ret. $14.99), and Fox Valley Winery Vintage Zin, American Dessert Wine (retail $20.95).

2005 Château Moulin de Curat

The year 2005 is considered by most the best year in decades, one in which the great wines are perfect, the good wines are great, and the average wines are good. If this very moderately priced bottle is any indication, they are right.
