The screwcap signals “drink now.” Typical Pinot Noir aromas of charred oak, tar, and cotton candy greet the nose, with a touch of earth too. It’s pretty fruity, with a burnt sugar undertone and a medium-light body. But though it’s fruity, the wine is never too sweet. Finish is a tad hot. Drink with light meats, medium fish, tomatoes, too. Recommended.
Clear, medium-light golden yellow in color. Clean, medium-light aromas of waxy yellow apples, green melon, fresh pear, and dried ginger. Dry on the palate with medium-light body and acidity; very soft flavors of fresh apples, lemon candies, and tropical fruit to a medium finish. Easy and refreshing. Pair with salmon or tofu in a sesame ginger glaze. Recommended.
Summertime, and the rosé drinkin’ is easy. Very pale pink, with a light floral, plum, and oak on the nose. Drinks as one would expect of a decent rosé, with some vanilla and citrus on the palate, although the acidity strikes me as undernourished. Don’t drink chillingly cold as it does seem to tamp down the wine; let it warm up a bit first. Finishes pleasantly but not long. Not terribly striking, but does seem to compel one to reach for the phone to order Thai or Indian carryout. Recommended.
This warm-vintage Cabernet Franc brings all of the spice, earth and herbal notes franc fanatics crave—everything from black tea to bay leaf to dried oregano to black pepper—with ripe, medium-intensity tannins, well-incorporated oak and just a bit of acidity on the finish to improve the balance.
Nose seems a bit confused. Notes of eucalyptus, fresh leather, and spinach. Not terribly complex on the palate, and a tad chewy, but still nice, with blueberry, nut, white pepper, and cassis. Finishes evenly and nicely. Would pair nicely (although clash geopolitically) with eggplant parmesan. Recommended.
Somewhat disappointing on first taste with vegetal asparagus notes, but patience is rewarded. Those unhappy nuances float away into the ether once the major alcohol (14.8%) dissipates, replaced by a nose of ripe blackberries and spices—a hint of anise, perhaps. Coats the palate nicely with soft tannins and chocolate and plum flavors. The finish is not overly impressive at first, but grows on you. In fact, this wine was even better the next day. Not out of place with a duck confit or even a cassoulet (once the weather gets chilly again). Highly recommended.
Clear, bright, medium straw yellow; Clean nose with medium intensity white flowers, candied citrus rind, apricot, sweet hay, yellow apple, and hotdog water (not bad! this is a classic Viognier marker for me!); Dry on the palate with medium-full body, medium acid, medium alcohol, medium flavors of yellow apple, peach skin, honeysuckle, candied lemon; rich texture and a medium-long finish. Pair with pan seared tofu glazed with spicy peach preserves. Highly recommended.
