When was the last time you read a wine tasting note and found the comment: “This wine pairs great with artichokes, tomatoes, and rice!”? Most of us would likely agree that suggestions like this are few and far between. There are many wine drinkers who believe that vegetables and wine do not mix.
The organizers call it “Cochon 555”—a lovely name, to be sure. But the event could have far more evocative labels, like “Porkstock” or “Pigapalooza” or “Swine Lake.” Okay, that last one I stole from a hilariously famous episode of “The Muppet Show” with ballet star Rudolf Nureyev and a chorus line of dancing…well, you know.
Blogging has become a mainstream component of many businessess. While blogging and social media may not entirely replace traditional media, it is becoming an increasingly important segment in media and sales tactics. The same holds true for many in the wine industry, and this growing importance will be marked by the third annual American Wine Bloggers Conference, or WBC, this June in Walla Walla, Washington.

The Zuccardi is fruitier, with slightly jammy overtones and good structure (though the acidity seems a little out of place), while the Cahors has an earthier, more brooding presence with more substantial, velvety tannins and great length.

Laurent Drouhin is a tall man with disarming charm. The great grandson of the original founder of Maison Joseph Drouhin, Laurent was in Indianapolis on March 25, 2010, to pour through a tasting of his company’s 2008 Burgundy, Chablis, and White Burgundy wines.
