On the palate, this medium bodied wine is packed with flavor, has good acidity, and is quite tasty. The finish is pretty long and dry. This wine is calling out for some Memphis styled barbecue ribs. Enjoy.” 90 points. Ken’s Wine Guide. 2005 “The Spaniard”- Our favorite of the lot was a monster blended red from Twisted Oak Winery in Calaveras County, California. We sampled “The Spaniard” named in honor of Inigo Montoya from The Princess Bride and oh, sweet Jeebus, was it amazing! This bold blend of tempranillo, grenache and graciano is aged in new French, new American and two-year-old French oak. Since two of these grapes – tempranillo and grenache – are noted for their ability to take oaking well (they’re also great blending grapes) you’ll be picking up rich, warm spice from the moment this wine is decanted. The graciano adds balance and a dark fruit to the mix, with a medium tannic quality on the finish. – chicagoist 2006 “The Spaniard” – “Big, big wine but balanced. Like drinking silk velvet. Very nicely made, with great depth and concentration in the mid-palate. A bit hot in the aromas, but suspect it would blow off quickly. New release. Tiny bits of roasted coffee in the aromas and flavors.” – Cellar Tracker average score 90.5. 2007 “The Spaniard”- 102.02 Flying Squirrel Heart. Dirty South Wine Reviews. Opening bid is $125. Minimum bid is $10. [How it works- Each auction lot will get its own post. As soon as it gets its own post, the auction is live. Once a bit of time has passed, and people really know about Wine for Haiti, lots will go live AND HOT. Once hot, each lot is on a 24-hour cycle, ending at 10:00 p.m. Eastern Time. If a lot goes a full 24 hours, from 10:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., without a new bid, the last bid in the comments wins. If we get into a bidding war, with the same people going back and forth, one day at a time, we will post something in the comments of that Auction Lot and schedule a time to bid to the death, at a time mutually agreeable to everybody involved.] For more auction Wine for Haiti auction items, please see the Wine for Haiti Auction Catalogue.
