[...] Yellow fruit , barely ripe banana and some star fruit and a touch of Zweiback, then grapefruit pith and some grass, make up the palate. It seems a little fat, a bit low in acidity. I am sure it would have been a cool pleasure, a welcome respite from the work of ….. Blackberries and blackcurrants have a background of tobacco, all wrapped gently in leather from smooth tannins. The finish was long, the flavor lingering for half a minute or more.
David,
This was a brilliant collaboration that you created. It was truly heartfelt and informative. I am inspired to taste the wines that you have selected and to ponder our grandfather’s experience whilst toasting between each cupful to all those who have served to preserve our freedom.
Thank you for sharing this.

Magnificent job, David. Your grandfather would have been quite proud of you and your efforts, as you clearly were of his. The War to End All Wars was a horrible warm up to continued conflicts in which we always seem to participate. The foot soldiers all realize the futility of the efforts, but to little avail.

The combination of the local wine reviews with diary text was quite creative and clever. When and if the diaries of Iraq and Afghanistan are ever published, I doubt wine reviews will be an integral part.
