2007 Olson Ogden Syrah Stagecoach Vineyard

This is a powerful, well-balanced wine. Big dark fruit is countered by flavors of cooked meat and spice, the crisp end of a prime rib rubbed with black pepper and a touch of rosemary. Tannins are smooth but very firm. This is begging for time in the cellar, or a thick end cut of that prime rib.

  1. I had this wine myself just a couple of nights ago. I thought it was fantastic- a luscious, hedonistic wine. Deep, dark purple. Fresh. Very fresh. And vibrant. Blueberries, blackberries, and leather on the nose. Fleshy tannins. Youthful mouth-feel and finish. Outstanding.

  2. Thanks for posting your notes on our wine, David. Glad to see you enjoyed it! You too, Robert! The grapes for this wine come from a block in Stagecoach designated solely for us. It was budded over from Cabernet Franc a few years ago. I am looking forward to trying it out over the next 6 to 12 months to see if it develops in a similar fashion to our 06 vintage syrah from this vineyard. The 2007 vintage is the first year we got grapes from our block. In 2006 we sourced grapes from a different portion of the vineyard that had different clones(383 & 470 as opposed to the 877 in our block of the vineyard).
