The flavors are typical of Russian River Valley Pinot Noir, not over-ripe or over-oaked, but with plenty of red fruit, barely ripe strawberries and cherry stones, and black tea. What really makes it stand out, though, is the velvety mouth feel and lingering finish. It is a delightful experience for the mouth, with food or without.

    Is there anything left of Davis Bynum other than the name? This was a respected label for many years but I don’t think since it became part of Rodney Strong that anything of the former winery remains. The winery is now Thomas George and I don’t even think the vineyards are the same. Is this essentially Rodney Strong Pinot renamed?

    I believe the 2006 Vintage was still under the actual Bynum families control.

    Actually, it appears that this is the 2007 vintage. It was produced by Gary Patzwald, the winemaker for Davis Bynum, which is owned by Rodney Strong, as Mark indicates. It is made from select vineyards in Russian River Valley and in a small section of our facility that we refer to as our “winery within a winery.” It is not renamed Rodney Strong wine. To verify that, please taste them all… Rodney Strong RRV and Reserve along side Davis Bynum RRV and, when released, the new single vineyard Davis Bynum. They are all distinctly different.
